attention from either end of the spectrum. Independent schools clearly do a better job with the “regular” kids because every child has the opportunity to achieve his or her “personal best”. At a school like Kline, you’re buying more rigorous academics, but also more individual attention from teachers who know your child well. Cultural diversity is another strength of private education. At Kline, as at many independent schools, we make every effort to reflect the social, economic and ethnic diversity of the population at large. To educate against stereotyping we seek a heterogeneous student population. Finally, independent schools place a greater emphasis on character development, moral and social values. We are concerned about the kind of citizens students will become, as well as their appreciation of what happens in the culture. A private school education is not about getting into a top college or socializing with the cultural elite. It’s about getting a good education--and the real payoff of a good education is in the quality of life you lead. Susan Kline |
